Our precious mother and mamaw, Nell Hammontree McConkey age 81 of Bridgeport went home to be with the Lord on June 10, 2018 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born on May 17, 1937 to the late Don (Jiggs) and Margaret Hammontree, Sr. Other than her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her brothers, Jim Bo Hammontree, Don Hammontree Jr. and Virgil (Butch) Hammontree. Nell loved going to watch and cheer on her UTC Mocs whenever she was able. Left behind to cherish Nell’s memoris are her husband, Don McConkey of Bridgeport; children, Alan (Judy) Bailey of Flat Rock, DeAun Baily Taylor (Frank Fouts) of Chatsworth GA, Mark (Heather) Dover of Stevenson; step children, John (Seijra) McConkey of Virginia Beach, Amy McConkey of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Jason (Rhonda) Bailey, Jill Bailey (Michael Clay), Amber (John ) Loughridge, Tristan (Jacob) Sturgill, Colt and Carleigh Dover, Noah Fouts, Johanna and Jonah McConkey, Sasha and Micah Weaver; great grandchildren, Abbie and Tyler Emerson, Savannah, Skylar, and Noah Clay, Judson and Jackson Loughridge, Harper Sturgill, Chance Weaver; siblings, Haweitta Hicks and Terry Hammontree along with a host of Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. Also left behind is Nell’s longtime companion and best friend, Dino. We want to extend a very special thank you to the angels who took care of her during her long illness, Leslie Smith and Alacare Hospice of Scottsboro. A celebration of Nell’s life will be held on June 13, 2018 at 1 PM from the Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Stevenson with Bro. Brian Guess officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 4 PM until 8 PM on Tuesday. She will be laid to rest at the Mt Carmel Cemetery in Bridgeport.
