Martha Ella "Berneda" (Abbott) Hill, November 14, 1921 – April 11, 2025 Martha Ella "Berneda" Hill, of Bridgeport, a beloved mother, grandmother, and woman of unwavering faith, peacefully passed away at the age of 103. Throughout her long and meaningful life, Berneda touched countless hearts with her spiritual dedication and generous spirit. Known as a true prayer warrior, Berneda lived her faith daily and inspired others through her example. Her passion for learning never dimmed – she was an avid reader who embraced new challenges and creative projects throughout her life with enthusiasm and determination. Born in Bridgeport, Alabama, to Joseph and Katie Marie (Johnson) Abbott, Berneda was one of twelve siblings in a close-knit family. She married the love of her life, Robert S. "Bob" Hill, on August 25, 1945, sharing 57 wonderful years together until his passing. As a Navy wife, Berneda created warm and loving homes across the country during Bob's deployments before they ultimately returned to their roots in Bridgeport. Together, they raised six children and built a legacy that now includes 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Like the virtuous woman of Proverbs 31, Berneda was known for her diligence, wisdom, and generosity. She rose early to care for her family and approached each day with strength and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Berneda is survived by her daughters Berneda Kay (Mike) Mustard, Mary Jo Hill, and Lanora Dawn Hill; her sister Alberta (Joe) Reeves; sisters-in-law Jimmye Hill, Cariolyn Abbott, and Shirley Abbott; and numerous nieces and nephews. She joins in heaven her beloved husband Bob; children Butch (Cheryl) Hill, Judith (James) Akin, and Gary (Valarie) Hill; Great Grandson Brian Andrew Pylant; and her siblings Lorene (Van) Steele, Jo Alma (Russ) Paris, Dorothy (Jack) Stewart, Willie Mae (Otis) Howard, Dewey Nathaniel Abbott, Nora (Charles) Williams, June (Robert) Gibson, Ralph (Hudie Mae) Abbott, Don (Shirley) Abbott, and Richard (Carolyn) Abbott. Visitation will be held on Thursday April 17th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Valley Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL. The funeral will be on Friday April 18th at 2:00 pm at Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Abbotts Chapel Cemetery with Nathan Kennedy officiating.
