Bobbye McCrary Obituary

Bobbye Joyce McCrary died on November 8, 2024. She was 85. Mrs. McCrary was born in Detroit, Michigan, to John Jefferson and Willie Pearl Edwards, educated at Stevenson High School, and spent her life in Stevenson, Alabama. She worked as a bookkeeper for Smith Chevrolet in Stevenson, Alabama, for 45 years and was known for her generous spirit, outgoing personality, and kind heart. She enjoyed the music of Elvis Presley, baking, and spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. McCrary is survived by her daughter and son, Angella Rachelle McCrary Wimberly (Charles Wimberly) and Rodney Jefferson McCrary (Juanita McCrary); granddaughters Chasity Shae McCrary English and Courtney Elise Wimberly; great-grandchildren Macklen Tyler English and Sadie Belle English; niece Tamari Ann McCrary Nelson (Jeffery Nelson); and a host of beloved great-nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Jimmy Rayford McCrary, sister Mary Lee Edwards McCrary, and niece Tomala Antawanette McCrary Holder. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Mrs. McCrary’s caregiver, Ms. Christy Johnson, for her kindness, support, care, and love shown to Mrs. McCrary over the past 6 years. Christy, thank you for the comfort you gave our dear Bobbye, as well as the wonderful insights, knowledge, and emotional support you showed our entire family. The family also wishes to thank the staff of the medical intensive care unit at Memorial Hospital (Chattanooga, TN) and Enhabit Hospice (Scottsboro, AL) for their special care. Visitation will be held at Valley Funeral Home in Stevenson, Alabama, on Tuesday, November 12th and Wednesday, November 13th, from 2PM to 8PM Central Time. On Thursday, November 14th, visitation will be held from 10AM-2PM Central Time. Funeral services will take place at 2PM with graveside service at Stevenson City Cemetery. Pastor Jeffery Nelson of Battle Creek Baptist Church (South Pittsburg, TN) will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Tommy Broad, Benton Crawford, Michael McCrary, Mark McCrary, Michael Summers, and Charles Wimberly. The family will receive visitors afterward at 1105 Old Mount Carmel Road in Stevenson, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends who would like to honor Mrs. McCrary’s memory donate to the Alzheimer Disease Research Center at either the University of Alabama at Birmingham or Vanderbilt University. A special thanks to Dr. Richard Peters, Chattanooga, TN for the care, support, and love he gave Bobbye an her family throughout her illness.
