David Poe Obituary

After a brief illness, the Lord took the strong hand of David Lee Poe, Sr., age 73, to guide him to heaven, while the angels sang to welcome him to his heavenly home. David had been a former resident of Jasper, TN then he and his wife moved to Stevenson, AL. He was married to Brenda M. Poe for the last 51 years. His last words to Brenda were thanking her for their 51 years of marriage, the beautiful mother to their children, taking care of him during his illness however most of all being the Godly woman to him and his family. David's affection for his wife and their life was a gift from God. He was a man that cherished and loved his wife and children. David had served in the United States Army as a Sergeant and Engineer of 169 Engineering Battalion. David had been employed at Norfolk Southern Railroad for twenty-four years. After retiring from Norfolk, he became a “full-time grandfather” to his grandchildren that owned his heart. David was Christian and a member of the Bridgeport Church of Christ in Bridgeport, AL. He was known as being an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide and proud to say “Roll Tide Roll”. In 1977-1978, David served as the President of the Bridgeport Tigers Quarterback Club at a time when his sons were too young to play high school football. David had the love of horses. He had been a horse trainer, horse breeder, and enjoyed his miniature ponies for his grandchildren and other children to ride or pull wagons. David enjoyed showing his horses at the horse shows and trail riding. During his free time, he loved riding his tractor and mowing his yard with his zero turn mower. He enjoyed the great outdoors, working on his farm and taking care of his livestock. David was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel Lewis Poe and Willie Westmoreland Poe; brothers, Jimmy Poe, Bill Poe, Donnie Poe and Tommy Poe; sisters, Martha Vaughn and Betty Cooper and grandson, Trey Poe. He leaves his fondest memories to his wife, Brenda M. Poe; sons, David Lee Poe, Jr. and Billy (Kelli) Poe; sisters, Polly Estep and Bobbi LaCour; sister in law, Ruby Poe; grandchildren, Trent (Kerabrook) Poe, Tanner (Haley) Poe, Marisa (Austin) Kirby, Sgt.
