Ernestine Virginia Beck Raulston, 94, of Bridgeport, AL died June 9, 2024, in a medical facility near the home of her daughter, Anna, in Anniston, AL. Ernestine was the daughter of the late John Bedford Beck, Sr., and Velma Lee Parton Beck. Ernestine was born January 11, 1930, near the Bridgeport, AL, area in an unincorporated neighborhood called Summerhouse Mountain. She attended Bridgeport High School, then David Lipscomb College with a two-year degree. She transferred to finish with a B.S. Degree from the University of Alabama. She completed her master’s degree at Arkansas State University, in Jonesboro, AR. Except for a few years working for the Jackson County, AL, Superintendent's office, she was a teacher specializing in elementary education. Her teaching career spanned over 36 years with most of that time being spent as an educator at Bridgeport Elementary School in Bridgeport, AL. A committed Christian, she was a member of the Bridgeport Church of Christ. She was a loyal Alabama Alumni and sports fan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband of nearly 60 years, Herbert H. Raulston, Sr.; her second husband, Tobe Samples; and her three brothers, John Bedford Beck, Jr., James Thomas Beck, and Robert Lee Beck. Survivors include her children: Anna (Ronald) Chambless of Anniston, AL; Ginny (Richard) Ross of Gainesville, FL; Katherine Cordell of Denver, CO; and Herbert (Connie) Raulston, Jr., of High Point, NC; her brother David (Coreen) Beck of Las Vegas, NV; her 7 grandchildren: Ronald Chambless, Jr., David Chambless, John Cordell, Blake Cordell, Roslyn Cordell, Richelle Ross, and Jackson Raulston; and her 8 great-grandchildren: Aurora, Noah, Sarah, Caylee, Ryder, Ellie Blake, Reagan, and Ellie Kate; She immensely enjoyed spending time with her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren. Of her many talents, she enjoyed opening her home to hospitality with family and friends and with serving others. She had many hobbies – such as sewing, gardening, photography, journaling and assembling puzzles. She was known for taking long walks around her Crestview Heights neighborhood for fresh air and long walks on the TN river walking bridge for exercise. Viewing will be Saturday, June 15, 12-2 PM CDT at the Bridgeport Church of Christ in Bridgeport, AL. The funeral service will be Saturday, June 15, at 2 PM CDT at the Bridgeport Church of Christ officiated by Bro. Danny Rader. Interment will be at the Hackworth Cemetery next to Edgefield Church of Christ.
