Gary Shavers Obituary

Gary Gene Shavers age 78 passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, he went to be with Jesus on October 31, 2024. Gary was born the youngest of seven children to Ruth Shavers of Jackson County, Alabama on July 13, 1946. Services will be held at Valley Funeral Home in Scottsboro with Brother Anthony Dickinson officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday November 5, 2024, from 5-8 pm and the funeral will be on November 6,2024. A brief visitation will be on that same day at 1:30 pm and the service will be at 2:30 pm. The burial will follow at Skyline Community Cemetery. Gary was known for his many talents and being a jack of all trades. What he was most known for is his music and singing (his true passion in life). He also had a love for horses and had several throughout his life. Midnight was his pride and joy. He held many positions in the work force; (Army Veteran, Factory Worker, Truck Driver, Construction Worker, Equipment Operator, Scottsboro City Employee; Power Board and Street Dept.), the list goes on. In 1998 Gary had a near fatal accident while at work. Once he recovered well enough, he returned to the Street Dept. and worked for several more years, until he had to retire early due to the injuries sustained in 1998. Gary was not a sit around kinda guy. He continued to do occupations he could for many more years. Sadly a few years ago it was discoverd that he had a inoperable brain condition that was due to head trauma. On October 31,2024, he had a massive brain bleed which caused him to be declared brain dead on November 1,2024. During that time a majority of his organs were not functioning and the rest were shutting down. Due to his fighting Spirit and love for life, his heart would not listen to his brain. Gary wanted to "Live Life", he did not want to be alive in a "Lifeless" state. Gary was pronounced dead on November 1, 2024. He is survived by his ex-wife Betty Shavers the mother of his daughter Leigh Shavers, son Gary Shavers II, three grandsons Caleb, Reese and Cole Shavers, sister Elizabeth Hardy of St. Louis MO, and several nieces and nephews, friends and loved ones. Gary is preceded in death by grandparents; Grover & Bessie Phillips, mother Ruth Shavers, sister Ruby Keeton, sister Dorothy Grffith, brother Franklin D. Clines, brother "Buddy" Clines, and brother Howard Clines.
