Glenda Meadows Obituary

Glenda Marolyn (Blake) Meadows, 93, of Scottsboro, AL passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024 surrounded by family with laughter, tears, song and prayers. Glenda was born in Vinson, OK, on March 30, 1931 and was raised in Cleburne County, AL. After graduating from Heflin High School, she attended Jacksonville State University where she earned a degree in education and met her husband, John Louie Meadows. They married in 1951 and had four children. While John coached football, she spent her teaching career in Cullman, Gordo, Scottsboro and Huntsville, Alabama where she taught elementary, middle, and high school classes. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International of women educators in Huntsville. Glenda also taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was church organist in Fayetteville, TN. She also sang in church choirs in Scottsboro, AL. Glenda was preceded in death by her father, Marion Lafayette Blake, and her mother Cornice (Johnson) Blake and her husband John. She is survived by her children John Blake Meadows (Kelly), Judy Lynn Hamlet (Steve), Mary Beth Bulman (Benny) and Jane Meadows Jones; and grandchildren Sarah Kristen Meadows (Rick Newton), John Price Hamlet (Julie), Tyler Blake Hamlet, Amy Green Clark (Josh) , Megan Green Benson (Tyler) and David Jones. Glenda is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren and many other family and friends. Glenda was a passionate supporter of her husband’s 50-year football coaching career acting as his right hand in scouting teams from the press box and at home with her culinary skills cooking for both coaches and team members. Many of the vegetables served originated from the large garden that she and John kept so beautifully. Glenda was an avid golfer and tennis player, and she and John enjoyed taking their camper to golf resorts around the Southeast. They also volunteered their time with the adult Special Olympics golfing group in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Glenda enjoyed sewing, art, and woodworking making everything from dresses to furniture and loved attending sports and music events for her grandkids and great-grandkids. Friends can visit with the family at the Valley Funeral Home in Scottsboro, AL on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at 2 pm until the funeral service begins at 3 pm.
