James Thomas Allen Obituary

James Thomas Allen, affectionately known as “J. T.” or “Tom”, by those who knew and loved him, transitioned to his eternal home on November 22, 2022. James Thomas, was the third of six children born in Jackson County, Alabama, to the late Elder Worley T. K. and Beulah Savage Allen in the Cedar Grove Community of Stevenson, Alabama. The family consisted of three girls and three boys. He was reared by loving parents in a Christian household,his father was a Pastor, and his mother prepared large, delicious meals as they welcomed anyone who sat at their table. He was continuously surrounded by his family, numerous cousins and friends. J. T. was educated in the Jackson County, Alabama school system. He moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee where he resided until his death. J. T. was a hard worker and prided himself for being a carpenter, and was skilled, as a “jack of all trades”. Since an early age, he was mechanically inclined, and had a “knack” for fixing things, or tearing them up. J. T. was employed by Tennessee Valley Authority. He was adventurous and his entrepreneurial spirit prompted him to open a small retail business as well as a construction company. He enjoyed cooking and spent countless hours working on his antique vehicles and showing his 1954 Chevrolet and 1965 Ford Truck. One of the joys of his life was his relationship with his savior, Jesus Christ. J. T. confessed a hope in Christ as a young adolescent and became a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Stevenson, Alabama. He used his God-given talent to sing, pray, and worship the Lord. He was usually in church on Sunday morning. In the recent years, he affiliated himself with Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. J. T. was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lottie Allen Henry, and Laura Jean Allen, and one brother, Jessie Allen. He leaves to cherish his loving memory three daughters, Angela (Shawn Andrews) Underwood, Scottsboro, Alabama; Cierre Allen and Brittini S. Allen, both of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two sons, James Lopez Allen, and Christopher E. Allen, Hollywood, Alabama. Grand children, Noah, Jaylon, Anyaunna, Zaniah, Jameson, Jakara, Kaylen, Harmoni, Lattoria, Tearea and Desmond. One sister, Margaret Jo Fletcher, South Pittsburg, Tennessee, and one brother Rex L. (Lola) Allen, Riceville, Tennessee, an uncle, Michael Allen, Athens, Alabama, and a host of relatives, friends and loved ones. Visitation will be from 11-12 on Friday and the funeral service will be 12 PM Friday December 2, 2022 from the Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Stevenson.
