James Holder Obituary

James “Baby Doll” Quay Holder passed away on January 1, 2025 at the age of 83 in his home surrounded by family. Born on April 17th 1941, James Holder grew up in Orme, TN. and attended South Pittsburg schools. James resided in Bridgeport, AL. with his wife Laura Holder. James is preceded in death by his mother Willie Mae Rollins, brother William Dee Holder, daughter Lynn Holder, and daughter Amelia Holder. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Laura Crownover Holder, daughters Angie Morrow (Mitchell), Jamie Carraway (Lance), and Kristy Collins (Larry), grandchildren Christopher Martin (Jessica), Jason Morrow (Sarah), Justin Morrow (Mary Hannah), Tabitha Holder (Randall), Amy Carraway Raulston (Neal), and Brodie Carraway, 8 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. James was known as a hard-working jokester and a fan of the Tennessee Volunteers. After a long career of boiler making, James retired in 2003 from TVA Widows Creek. James was a 50-year member of the Bridgeport Masonic Lodge and had over 25 years of membership with the Bridgeport Order of the Eastern Star. James spent his parenting years coaching, working hard, and raising all of his girls. He spent his retired years traveling and adventuring with his wife Laura and making memories with his grandchildren. James spent the past year at home in the care of his devoted wife enjoying all his visitors, candy, and many interesting documentaries. James is affectionately known around town as “Baby Doll”, but his grandchildren (and their friends) call him Papaw. Over the years, he earned additional nicknames like “Ole Grumpy” and “Grinch”. His family will miss his taglines such as “Don’t take no wooden nickels!”, how he called everyone either “baby” or “princess”, and his “and many more” solo at the end of every Happy Birthday song. The family of James Holder asks that you share your happy memories of James and pray for their peace in his absence. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 5th 2025 from 2pm-6pm at Valley Funeral Home in Stevenson, AL.
