James Specht Obituary

James Walter Specht passed away at the age of 80, on June 8, 2025 in Bridgeport, AL. He was born on May 30, 1945 to George and Rose (Rybarski) Specht, In Hammond, IN. He attended Grade School at ST. Michael’s in Schererville, IN, and graduated from Dyer Highschool in 1964. Mr. Specht served in the U.S. Army during The Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1970. He was an electrician with I.B.E.W. local 697 until his retirement. He married Maxine Gerlach in 1972. Together they had five children. In 1983he married JoAnn Bennet and added three bonus children to his family. He is survived by one daughter, Tammie Specht, Francis, OK, four sons; Jim and (Heather) Specht, Claude, Texas, Mark and (Angel) Specht, Blue Springs, MO, Bryan and (Angela) Specht, Francis, OK, Rob and (Tiffany) Specht, Francis, OK. Three stepchildren Megan (Tony) Payne, Ricky (Jodie) Bennet, and Danielle (Mike) Guess, all from Alabama. 17 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Georgie and Chuck Specht, his sister Carolyn Oliver and his wife Joan. Visitation will be 5-8 on Thursday and a grave side service will be held at 12 PM on Friday June 13, 2025 at the Stevenson City Cemetery with Brandon Evans officiating.
