John Calvin "Cutter" Mitchell ~ John was born May 2, 1953 in Stevenson, AL to the late Lucille Ward Mitchell and the late Samuel Mitchell. On Friday June 29, 2025 at his daughter's house in Cartersville, GA he left us for a better place not made my man. He was 72. John was a graduate of Stevenson High School. After high school John worked his way through a local union. He worked and Murphy Hill and Lodge Manufacturing. From a laborer, to a heavy equipment operator finally retiring as a Dual Rate Foreman from Widows Creek TVA. John loved herding his goats with a hhhheeeyyyy Bill. He was always down for a good laugh, but could get serious quick. He loved to travel. He also loved the LA Laker, all things Dallas Cowboys, he had every one of the California Raisin collectibles. He was on the only black man I ever heard riding to Huey Lewis and the News and Rod Steward. He loved Kenny G-Silhouette, the blues, jazz , and Tyrone Davis. John accepted Christ at a young age. He attended Cedar Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he was an active member. Helping out where he could. He is survived by his daughter Rhonda Mitchell of Cartersville, GA and son Calvin Mitchell (Shawnte) of Bridgeport, AL. Grandkids DeVante, Chance, Caelan, and Myridian along with 7 great grandkids. Sisters Emma Bruce, Shirley Jordan, Gwen Smith (Larry), Ernestine Lovelady, Janice Byrd, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Lucille Ward Mitchell and Samuel Mitchell, sisters: Uzzie Mae Rutledge, Doris Alberga, Lucille Boddie, and grandson Christian Scrutchins. Visitation will be held July 7, 2025 at Valley Funeral Home 1214 Kentucky Ave Stevenson, AL at 11am-1pm. Service Starting at 1PM. Interment at Cross Cemetery.
