John Edward Stewart went to be with the Lord at home surrounded by family and friends on July 19, 2026. He was a Vietnam Veteran and an avid lover of horses. He trained horses for many years with Pickens Russell. Later he went to work at the Stevenson Saw Mill where he eventually retired. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Johnson Stewart; son, Eddie (Victoria Powll) Stewart; daughter, Amanda (Tim) McKenzie; grandkids, Shelby (Tyler) Flackman, Alex (Kiran) Stewart, and Nick McKenzie; great grandkids, Tyson, Sara, and Leo Flackman; a host of family and friends. He was preceded by his parents, Homer and Mary Stewart; sister, Jean McCrary; brothers, Homer and James Stewart. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12-2 and the funeral will be 2 PM Tuesday July 21, 2026 from the Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Scottsboro. Burial will be in the Pinehaven Memorial Gardens with Kirk Griggs officiating.
