Nellie Deola Hastings Jeffery of Woods Cove died Sunday February 21 .She was surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her children Howard Jeffery and wife Lori, daughter Angela Jeffery-Grizzard and husband Joe, son Darryl Jeffery and wife Glorina, and daughter Anita Ayers and husband Tyler. She has a special niece Opal Wells and nephew Ed Holcomb who sat with her and cared for her. She has 11 grandchildren who brought her great happiness. She was also blessed to have 17 great grandchildren. She was also Aunt Deola or Granny to the entire Goosepond Church of God family. She taught Sunday school at this church for over 50 years. She has sisters Betty Sue Hastings and Carolyn Ferguson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Grady Eugene Jeffery, her grandson JohnWayne Otinger, her parents Delbert and Esther Hastiings, her brothers J.D , Rachel, Jimmy Ray and Buddy Hastings and sisters Mary Lou Wininger and Annie Ruth Parker. Deola was a member of the Goosepond Church of God. She taught Sunday School and counseled and invested in many young lives across the ages. She even organized a Bible mail program for the young men of the community who were called to war in Vietnam. All of the young men came home alive. She got to travel to the Navajo Indian reservation and minister three different times and counted it as one of her most special joys. In lieu of flowers donations are requested to Goosepond Church of God at 2726 Bob Jones Road , Scottsboro, Alabama 35768 in honor of Deola Jeffery. Visitation will be at Valley Funeral Home Tuesday Feb. 23 from 4 till 8 pm. Social distancing practices will be observed. The funeral will be at Goosepond Church of God Wednesday at 11 am with interment at Goosepond Cemetery. The service will be officiated by Brother Jerry Cornelison and Brother Jaime Holcomb. Pallbearers are her grandsons Jonathan Manning, Sean Burress, Joshua Jeffery, and Josh Yates. Special church family J.C. Cornelison and Zain Johnson.
