James Ollie Mashburn was born on June 1, 1944, in Bridgeport, Alabama, to Bige Mashburn and Lucy Lorene Hall Mashburn Moore. He was preceded in death by his parents; his second father, Joseph Estill Moore; his son, Johnny Lewis Payne; his beloved grandchild, Corey Dale Mashburn and great grandchild, Theron River Anderson; and his siblings, Fred Mashburn, Lonzie N. Mashburn, Robert Junior "June Bug" Mashburn, and Estel Don Moore. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife, Sarah "Snookie" Castle Mashburn of Grove Oak, Alabama. He is also survived by his children: Pamela Mashburn; Robert Allen (Marlean) Mashburn; LaDanna Lynn Mashburn; and Vickie Marie (Danny) Wininger. His cherished grandchildren are James (Tracy) Matthews, Johnny Dale (Ryan) Matthews, Nikki Patrick, Melody (Travis) Mitchell, Daniel Wooten, Brandy (Jeremy) Hope, Quinten Minix, Sarah (Justin) Whitehead, and April Mashburn; along with several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his special fussing and garden-talking buddy, his niece, Bobby (Grant) Russell; his sister, Emily Lou Mashburn Sharpe of Clover, South Carolina; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Ollie was a truly great man—a loving husband, devoted father, faithful provider, role model, teacher, and a wonderful human being. He gave his life to God and faithfully attended Pleasant View Church of God. His faith guided the way he lived, and his family was always at the center of his heart. He was one of the hardest-working men you could ever meet. No matter the challenge, if he set his mind to something, he found a way to accomplish it. He made sure his family never went hungry and always had what they needed. His love was shown through his sacrifice, strength, and unwavering dedication. Ollie was an exceptionally gifted mechanic who loved working on cars, trucks, tractors, and heavy equipment. He enjoyed truck driving, working industrial outages, and helping with hurricane relief efforts. He also loved farming and raising animals. He knew every cow by name, and some, how they knew him too—when he called, they came running. It was just one of the many special gifts that made him who he was. He had a quick wit, a wonderful sense of humor, and loved telling jokes that could make everyone around him laugh. He never met a stranger, and if you were fortunate enough to know Ollie, you had a friend for life. He was generous, kind, encouraging, and always willing to lend a helping hand. Though our hearts are broken, we are so grateful for every year, every lesson, every laugh, and every memory we shared with him. His love, wisdom, faith, and legacy will live on in each of us and in the generations to come. Dad, you will forever be in our hearts. Until we meet again, we love you. Visitation will be 4-8 on Wednesday and 10-8 on Thursday and the funeral will be 2 PM Friday July 31, 2026 from the Valley Funeral Chapel in Stevenson. Burial will be in the Mashburn Family Cemetery.
