Ronald Lovelace Obituary

Ronald Stanley Lovelace, 71, of LaGrange, GA, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, December 5, 2019, at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center with his wife and daughter by his side. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM, CST, Sunday, December 8, at Valley Funeral Home, 1214 Kentucky Avenue, Stevenson, AL, 35772, with the funeral service immediately following at 2:00 PM CST. Sam Shelby will officiate. Burial will be in Cumberland Cemetery. Ron was born in Akron, OH, on February 12, 1948. He was the son of the late Oran and Orene (Keller) Lovelace and after Oran passed, Dr. Joe E. Hall. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Wenda (Gonce) Lovelace; daughter Krysta (Lovelace) West, of Glencoe, AL, and her husband Chad West, whom Ron loved as a son; and granddaughters Mallorie and Zoe West. Ron was preceded in death by his brother, William Lovelace (his wife Gail surviving) and step-brother, Don Hall (his wife Deborah surviving). Ron is also survived by his brother Dennis Lovelace (Sherry), and step-brothers Doug Hall (Debbie), and Bruce Hall (Rachel.) After graduating from Stevenson High School in 1966, Ron earned a B.S. degree in Textile Chemistry from Auburn University. He served in Vietnam from November 1969 to September 1970. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and two Bronze Stars. After being employed with Milliken & Co. in LaGrange for 15 years, his independent spirit led him to owning his own business, the Pine Mountain Concrete Ready-mix Company. Michael Murphy joined him in this venture for many years until Ron's health forced him to retire. Ron was a devoted husband and father; he loved his two bonus granddaughters as his own. He enjoyed motorcycle trips, playing his banjo, and listening to all kinds of music. He was a member of the Bartley Road Church of Christ. After re-dedicating his life to God, he openly shared his faith with his family and friends. We give thanks for all of the support we have received from family, church family, and friends. We are especially grateful for caregivers Jill Patterson Hicks and Natasha Henry. In lieu of flowers you may make contributions to the Gonce Church of Christ, your local congregation, or the charity of your choice.
