Rosa Redd Obituary

Rosa Lee Evans Redd, of Bridgeport, Alabama (AL), died August 4, 2024, in Bridgeport. Rosa was born in Hollywood, AL, on February 12, 1942, the daughter of Clyde Evans Sr. and Ella E. (Moore) Evans. She graduated from McReynolds High School in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, in 1960. She was married to U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Charles L. Redd for 21 years. They had three children. Rosa loved being an Army wife and traveling around the world. She collected mementos from every place she visited. After the death of her husband in 1987, Rosa moved back to Bridgeport where she obtained a commercial driver's license. After years of dedication, Rosa retired from driving a bus for the Jackson County School District, lovingly serving countless students and families. She spoke fondly of the children who were on her bus route. Rosa was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Bridgeport. She was an avid birdwatcher, and was particularly fond of cardinals and hummingbirds. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Redd; her parents, Clyde Evans Sr. and Ella E. (Moore) Evans; her youngest daughter, Angelika S. Redd; her sister, Iris Gail Dave; and her brother, Robert L. Evans. Rosa is survived by her brother, Clyde Evans Jr. of Bridgeport; her daughter, Charlotte (Redd) Wood of Grand Forks, ND; her son, Chuck Redd of Bridgeport; her grandchildren, Nik (Brittany) Stormwood of Woodbridge, VA; Shanay Redd of Chattanooga, TN; William Wood of Hopkins, MN; Rin Wood of Fort Collins, CO; Evan Redd of St. Paul, MN; and Kiana Redd of Chattanooga, TN; great-grandchildren, Aniyah Redd of Chattanooga, TN; and Idris Stormwood of Woodbridge, VA; and nieces, nephews and cousins in the Jackson County area. Rosa is also survived by her lifelong best friend Dorothy Lane. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Valley Funeral Home, 1214 Kentucky Avenue, Stevenson, AL, with the Elder Anthony Williams officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia
