Ruby Campbell Obituary

“Verily I say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:43 Ruby Lee “Big Mama” Campbell was born on February 10, 1939 to the late Dan Tolliver and Emma Lou Johnson. Ruby Lee passed away peacefully at Highlands Health and Rehab in Scottsboro, Alabama on July 21, 2020. Ruby confessed hope in Christ and joined Greater St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Scottsboro, Alabama. She was a faithful and loyal member serving on the Trustee Board and Choir until her health failed. Ruby was united in holy matrimony to James (Doc) Campbell for 50 years. She was greatly admired by her family, friends, and neighbors. Ruby gave 26 years of service to the Jackson County Hospital and was also a loyal employee of Elizabeth Word. Ruby Lee was preceded in death by both parents Dan Tolliver and Emma Lou Johnson; three sisters: Dannette Tolliver, Katherine Tolliver, Janice Tolliver; one brother: Richard Lee Johnson; one brother-in-law: Lawrence R. Campbell; one sister-in-law: Mary Gains and two daughters: Celie Mae Tolliver and Rena Clay. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband: James Campbell; two brothers: Charles Johnson, Jr. of Scottsboro, AL and Dan (Annette) Tolliver of Chattanooga, TN; five sisters: Marie Doss, Martha Jackson, Willie Mae Appleton, all of Scottsboro, AL; Iciephine Smith and Maggie Pendergrass, both of Chattanooga, TN; three sons: Robert (Rhonda) Tolliver of Huntsville, AL; Jason Tolliver (grandson) of Atlanta, GA and Don Word (God-son) of Scottsboro, AL; one daughter: Emily Moody (God-daughter) of Huntsville, AL; two stepsons: Rick (Gwen) Campbell of Oakridge, TN and Ronald K. (Kathy) Campbell of Buford, SC; one stepdaughter: Kimberly Gonder of Rock Ridge, FL; one brother-in-law: Minister Ralph (Shirley) Tolliver; one sister-in-law: Sadie Henry; 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
