Shirley Jean Sells Garner, age 76 of Sherwood, passed this life on Sunday, March 16, 2025. She was born on May 3, 1948 at her home in Sinking Cove. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Edward Garner; daughters Dana (Robby) Guess and Misty (Adam) Talley; mother Elaster Sells; sisters Carolyn (Gerry) Hoosier, Fay (Jerry) Hoosier, and Kathy Sells; brothers Danny (Teresa) Sells and Johnny Sells; grandkids Connor Guess, Deven Hoosier, Lana Guess, Clara Guess, Colin Talley, Blake Talley, and Ariana Talley; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members. Special mention to two amazing caregivers Mandy Summers and Stephanie Faxon. She is preceded in death by her father, Bill “Pud” Sells; sister, Linda Jane Sells; father-in-law Wilbur and mother-in-law Louise Garner; sister-in-law Beverly and brother-in-law David Barnes; and sister-in-law Connie Sells. She went to school in Sinking Cove and graduated from Franklin County High School. She retired from Shaw Industries. Shirley loved her family with her whole heart. She gave the best hugs and had the prettiest smiles. She loved cooking, loved her flowers, and loved to garden. When she was not spoiling her grandkids or spending time with her family, she was in her garden, taking care of her flowers, shopping, eating out, watching her shows, or talking on the phone with her family. She always looked forward to holiday gatherings, family cookouts, birthday parties, and any other excuse to cook and get together with her family. She will be missed by many. Visitation will be from 2-8pm on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Valley Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 20, 2025, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home with Bro.Todd Barnes and Bro. Johnny Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Sherwood.
