Native Jackson County resident, Mrs. Vada Annis Lusk Pickett passed away Thursday December 3, 2020 in Cypress, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Don Proctor Lusk and Thomas Herbert Lusk; brother, William Herbert Lusk; sisters, Mary Lou Bellamy, Mildred Bryant, Erlene Bohannon; husband, Wonnie Bert Pickett. She is survived by her brother, Newtie Lusk; sisters, Mavis Miller, Reva Holt, and Wilma George; daughters, Vicki Lynn Pickett and Connie Dianne Pickett. Vada was educated in the Jackson County School System and graduated from Virginia College in Huntsville, Alabama in 1970 with an accounting degree. She worked for Redstone Arsenal, Bellefonte Nuclear Power Plant, and Scottsboro Postal Service before retiring. Vada had a keen sense of style and enjoyed designing and sewing clothing for her and her daughters. She loved flowers and enjoyed planting flowers and arranging silk flowers into arrangements and gifting them to friends and acquaintances. She studied gemology and became an expert on metals and stones and learned to make beautiful beaded necklaces and earrings to wear and gift to family and friends. Vada’s goal was to be a Christian and make Heaven her final home. She loved to talk about the Lord and be an example for others and help them to also reach that goal. She attended many churches in the Jackson County area and was loved and appreciated by all for her genuine love, faith, and generosity. Vada moved to Texas to live with her daughter on December 10, 2010 and enjoyed attending the native hibiscus and bougainvillea growing there. She continued to spread God’s word and was a blessing to everyone that she met. She made a difference in many lives there and leaves behind many friends and loved ones. Visitation will be Friday from 11-1 and a funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Friday December 18, 2020 from the Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Scottsboro.
